Parents can convey important positive impressions about reading when they read themselves.

Reading together is a time for closeness.

These memories are lasting and will develop children’s love for books and reading lifelong.

Set theScene

  • Let the reader choose the book
  • Provide a peaceful place
  • Give plenty of encouragement
  • If there are more than five errors in a  hundred the text is too difficult
  • Reading is about meaning
  • Focus on pre-reading, reading and rereading and post reading

  • Say ..“ go back and read again and get your mouth ready for the sound.”  As their knowledge in reading grows, ask further questions.
